| 520 | |a This study deals with the story of Jacob's pilgrimage to Bet-El (Genesis 35,1-15) in the biblical texts and the editing of this material in Jewish literature in the 3rd and 2nd century B.C. In Genesis 35,9-15 the author of the priestly codes placed God's revelation to Jacob at the centre of his Patriachs' story in the post exile period. The authors who lived at the time of the second temple refer to this too. They use this story to show that priesthood is derived from the patriarch Levi. At the same time the essence, basis and tasks of this institution are considered anew and redefined. The community of Qumran were particularly receptive to these writings. Almost all of these texts were found in the caves of the communities of the Dead Sea. Rapp's study concentrates on the literary techniques used in the revision of the story as he attempts to reconstruct the different sources used by the authors. | ||
