Norton, Balanced Scorecard, nella quale gli autori presentavano un modello di misurazione della performance che è diventato uno degli strumenti più utilizzati dalle imprese. In pochi anni, infatti, la balanced scorecard non soltanto ha consentito di perfezionare tali misurazioni, ma ha dato origine a una conseguenza imprevista: ha indotto il management a elaborare nuove forme organizzative, fortemente orientate dalla strategia e fondate sui principi-chiave individuati come nuclei centrali di una gestione aziendale davvero efficace. Proprio alla luce di tale ulteriore sviluppo nell'applicazione della balanced scorecard, in questo nuovo libro vengono illustrati e discussi i casi di oltre duecento aziende che con l'introduzione della balanced scorecard hanno dovuto rimodellare le proprie strutture organizzative. Gli autori propongono così un nuovo approccio alla dimensione strategica dell'impresa, allineando la gestione operativa agli intenti strategici e attivando, attraverso efficaci sistemi di reporting, processi di apprendimento organizzativo.</subfield>
