   <subfield code="a">Indoor and outdoor concentrations of 222Rn and its progeny were observed at two different types of operating nuclear power plants in Japan from August 1991 to November 1992. Indoor and outdoor 222Rn concentrations were observed simultaneously around the plants. Indoor equilibrium equivalent 222Rn concentrations at almost all measuring sites in the plants were lower than outdoor concentrations. This tendency would be a characteristic of nuclear power plants that have a pre-filter in the air supply system. The annual doses for hypothetical workers and the public living around the plants were assessed using four dosimetric models. The doses calculated by the James-Birchall model were 0.64 mSv.y-1 and 0.33 mSv.y-1 respectively for workers in the two plants. They were lower than or equal to the doses of 0.72mSv.y-1 and 0.33 mSv.y-1 for the public, respectively. This is due to indoor equilibrium equivalent 222Rn concentration being low at both the plants.</subfield>
