   <subfield code="a">35SO2−4 and glucosinolate precursors were administered to investigate the capacity of oilseed rape intact whole pods, isolated pod walls and seeds to carry out reactions of the glucosinolate biosynthetic pathway. Pod walls incorporated 35S-label from 35SO2−4 into both the thio-glucose and sulphonate-sulphur of glucosinolates. Pulse-labelling experiments showed that pod walls were the predominant source of the glucosinolates accumulated by the seeds. Isolated immatureseeds were capable of reductive assimilation of 35SO2−4 and incorporated 35S into sulphur-containing amino acids and the sulphonate moiety of glucosinolates, but were not able to incorporate 35S into the thio-glucose of glucosinolates.</subfield>
