   <subfield code="a">The O-Kα emission spectra from different types of oxides observed in an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) are used for computerized digital mapping. This method enables the chemical state distributions to be mapped with micron resolution. The technique has been applied to copper oxides with different chemical states with considerable success.</subfield>
