   <subfield code="a">Trauma-related symptoms of adolescent girls in a day treatment program include labile emotions, poor impulse control, anger, distrust, and aggression, among others. This article presents a creative therapeutic technique that addresses many of these issues. By incorporating various therapeutic strategies, the throwaway seems to permit the reduction of both resistance and tension, while facilitating new perspectives and changed behaviors. After regular utilization of this technique, not only did students begin asking for help where they had previously refused it they also demonstrated increased self-monitoring, reduced verbal and physical conflicts, and a more consistent ability to focus and concentrate on the task at hand. The throwaway is suitable for use with both groups and individuals.</subfield>
