   <subfield code="a">Reactive transport of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAH) was simulated with a process oriented multi-species-model for a model domain of 4km2. The objective of the calculations was the quantification of NA-processes. The transport model was cut out of a larger scale flow model. The basic processes of the reaction model are the halorespiration leading to reductive CAH degradation and oxidative CAH degradation. The reactive transport model was calibrated employing reactive species concentrations observed in 40 sampling points. The crucial parameters during model calibration were the direction of groundwater flow, the CAH release rates, and the availability of electron donors (hydrogen) and oxygen. The mass balance for the end of the modelling period (12/31/2002) showed that 72 % of the CAH released were eliminated by NA-processes, i.e. they were mineralised or they left the model domain in form of ethene/ethane. The remaining 28 % of the total CAH passed the downstream model boundary mainly as vinyl chloride (VC).</subfield>
