   <subfield code="a">The diffusion of Co2+ ions has been studied in multielectrolyte systems containing alkali metal bromides with a view to examine the effect of supporting electrolytes on the activation energy and obstruction effect for cobalt ions. It is observed that as the number of ions in a given medium increases, the magnitude of both parameters decreases. These observations are explained by considering the distortion in the gel-water structure caused by these ions and competitive hydration between ions and agar molecules.</subfield>
