   <subfield code="a">Summary: The information provided by the ir-spectrum of a mixture-sample to be analyzed can be used at a high level by calculating the cross-covariance function (ccvf) ψxy(k) using the ir-spectrum of a reference sample. For qualitative analysis this function is calculated in the wide range of −100&lt;k&lt;+100. The presence of the analyte is indicated by a global maximum of ccvf at k=0. The reference spectrum should be a binary mask derived from the spectrum of the pure analyte. For quantitative analysis the value of ccvf ψxy(k=0) is proportional to the content of the analyte in the sample to be analyzed. Ccvf is calculated only in the range −3&lt;k&lt;+3 using the real spectrum as a reference. The practicability of this procedure was proved by evaluating ir-spectra for the analysis of polyethylene samples. The experiments show that the analysis is possible even in the case of low resolved or very noise spectra.</subfield>
