   <subfield code="a">Summary: Medieval Arabian silver coins were analyzed by means of secondary neutral mass spectrometry (SNMS). Mercury deposits have been detected up to a depth of 10 μm. In the surface region enrichments of halogen have been determined, which may indicate an influence of marine climatic conditions on the coins. The application of SNMS analysis on problems of archeometry proved it to be a rapid quantitative method for surface and bulk composition and leads to new aspects of material characterization.</subfield>
