The new algorithm is equivalent to the Rayleigh quotient iteration and its rate of convergence is cubic. Numerical experiments indicate that the scaled Newton method is very competitive with the projected Newton method, and produces, in the main, insignificantly smaller residua than the Rayleigh quotient iteration.</subfield>
