   <subfield code="a">Conclusions: 1. The plastic deformation zones, formed at the tips of sulfides during caturation of the steel with hydrogen and during tensile loading, are embrittled at a rate which is considerably higher than that of the parent material and become a factor of initiating premature damage in the material. 2. It can be assumed that damage in the low-alloy steel in the medium containing hydrogen sulfide forms in four stages: formation of the plastic zone at the tip of sulfides (I), formation of HC microcracks (II), transition from the plane stress state in the tips of the microcracks to the plane strain state with the cracks reaching the critical size and with the start of the process of formation of cleavage clusters (III), formation of SSCC cracks (IV). 3. The fracture surface of the specimens contain two zones of local failure in the vicinity of the sulfide tips: the zone of corrosion failurel c and the zone of unstable brittle failurel f. Comparison of the dimensions of the zones of failure and plastic zones at the sulfide tips indicates that the zonel c develops within the limits of the plastic zoner 0, andl f within the limits of the zoner y. 4. The efficiency of the low-alloy steel with inclusions of elongated sulfides in operation in hydrogen sulfide-bearing media is determined by the volume fraction, geometrical, and mutual distribution of the sulfides.</subfield>
