   <subfield code="a">Summary: At the test site &quot;Haunstetter Wald” near the city of Augsburg investigations with remotely sensed pine stands (Pinus sylvestris L.) were carried out. The first point in the study dealt with the question of true interpretation of vitality, especially when comparing features on the ground and from the air. We found evident differences between the two interpretation methods. In a further step scanner data collected during low-level flights were analyzed to look for spectral reflection differences between pine and other tree species. Actually there were differences between various species and between damage classes like needle loss and chlorosis. Finally, a pine stand slightly differing from its environment could automatically be classified using a data set from 1000 m flight altitude. The results corresponded satisfactority with those obtained from true color and CIR-images.</subfield>
