   <subfield code="a">Conclusions: X-ray emission and X-ray electron spectra indicate a small transfer of charge from a tungsten atom to carbon in W2CX. With an increase in nonstoichiometry of these compounds there is an increase in density of the d-states of tungsten in the near-Fermi area. For W2CX strong hybridization of the W5d- and C2p-states is characteristic. The W4f-lines of the C-ray photoelectron spectra broaden with an increase in the number of vacant nodes in the nonmetallic sublattice, which is caused by the relative increase in the number of metal atoms found in a different energy state.</subfield>
