   <subfield code="a">We consider the kinetics of the photolysis of a halide RX in the gas phase by a rectangular photolyzing flash, involving the 3-stage cyclic kinetic scheme $$X_1 \xrightarrow{{k_1 }}X_2 + X_4 ,X_2 \xrightarrow{{k_2 }}X_3 ,X_3 + X_4 \xrightarrow{{k_a }}X_1 $$ . For certain values of the rate constants k1, k2 and k3 oscillations in the concentrations [Xi] are observed. Particularly pronounced oscillations occur for the quantity γ = [X2] − [X3], which is used to interpret the oscillations observed previously in a study of the photodissociative iodine laser for the iodides CF3I, C3F7I and i-C3F7I.</subfield>
