   <subfield code="a">The paper presents, with due regard to geological characteristics, the properties of the metamorphic and sedimentary rock mass in the region of the pumped-storage power station which is under construction at Mloty. The strength properties and the deformability of the rock mass have been described on the basis of in situ and laboratory investigations, depending on the direction of the operation of the shear forces with respect to the foliation planes. The results of investigations of the anisotropy of the compression strength of the rock have been presented for those rocks in the region of the pressure inlet tunnels. In the region of the upper reservoir the properties of the rock eluvium, which will constitute the foundation for a high embankment were examined. The filtration properties of the rock mass have been determined for the whole area. The results of complex geophysical investigations have been utilized in order to obtain details of the geological features and to establish the properties of the mass, especially along sections between the particular points of the in situ investigations.</subfield>
