   <subfield code="a">Samples of BP-Π photographic plates were calibrated against soft X rays of a Z pinch in tungsten arrays with and without aluminum filter being placed in front of them. A step attenuator composed of gray filters and X-ray energy sensors were used in the measurements. The relative and absolute characteristic curves of these photographic plates were determined. Owing to the technique developed, the distribution of the blackening density on time-integral photographs obtained with a camera obscura could be replaced by the distribution of the object's radiance integrated over time. It was found that, during implosion of double multiwire arrays, more than 90% of the total energy corresponding to the soft X-ray spectrum were emitted from an area &lt;500 μm in diameter.</subfield>
