   <subfield code="a">Conclusions: 1. Rapid melt quenching significantly reduces the chemical microinhomogeneity of steel 01N17K12M5T. A high cooling rate during solidification (Vcool=105-107 K/sec) promotes formation of fine dendrites (dendrite parameter decreases by more than an order of magnitude), i.e., there is a reduction in the scale of microsegregation. Partial homogeneization of cast metal with rapid melt quenching may occur during solid phase cooling. 2. The homogeneity of martensitic structures in steel 01N17K12M5T increases linearly with an increase in cooling rate during solidification. 3. With the same level of homogeneity recorded during solidification the final product of phase transformation in rapidly quenched steel 01N17K12M5T may be martensite or ferrite, i.e., depending on the solid phase cooling conditions.</subfield>
