   <subfield code="a">Conclusions: 1. When up to 0.1% of Zr is introduced to steel 09G2, its mechanical properties (σu, σy, δ and ψ) virtually do not improve after controlled rolling; in this case, however, the impact strength is increased by 20-50% at temperatures of −40°C and lower, and the work of crack development also increases over the entire temperature interval investigated. 2. The impact strength of the steel with zirconium increases as a result of an increase in the work of crack propagation. Its maximum value is reached at 0.1% Zr; when its content is increased to 0.18%, the resistance to fracture development is reduced, but it is, nevertheless, higher than that of the zirconium-free steel. 3. The improvement in the steel's ability to resist fracture development when zirconium is introduced is governed by grain-size reduction and also by the shape and arrangement of the nonmetallic inclusions.</subfield>
