   <subfield code="a">Conclusions: 1. to obtain a satisfactory distribution of cooling rates in PK-2 media, it is necessary to observe the following procedure for medium preparation prior to quenching; aging of the concentrate by immersing heated metal in the bath to raise the temperature of the solution for a brief time almost to its boiling point, the addition of water to the solution to the required concentration, and then an alkali to achieve a pH=6-7. 2. The cooling capacity of PK-2 solutions depends on their concentration; at temperatures of less than 400°C for solutions of any concentration, the cooling rate in the PK-2 medium is significantly higher than that in quenching oil. 3. The cooling capacity of the PK-2 quenching medium is determined to a large degree by the temperature of the bath. It is necessary to specify an effective cooling system for the quenching medium to prevent unfavorable consequences of a high-temperature bath.</subfield>
