   <subfield code="a">Summary: Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) is now an important break crop in the United Kingdom. It has been suggested that large areas of oilseed rape may act as sources of inoculum of plant pathogens for other brassica crops and as an additional source of airborne pollen in the spring. Studies of the production and dispersal of ascospores ofPyrenopeziza brassicae and pollen from oilseed rape crops are presented. The release of both ascospores and pollen are controlled partially by the weather; ascospores are released after rain but most pollen release takes place on warm windy days. Substantial numbers of ascospores and pollen grains escape from the crop and the results of modelling their dispersal suggests that they have the potential to travel considerable distances.</subfield>
