   <subfield code="a">The toxicity of dimethoate 30EC and methidathion 40EC was tested against four strains ofPhytoseiulus persimilis obtained from commercial greenhouse rose crops. A single strain ofP. persimilis demonstrated tolerance to the field rate of 1.0 ml/l dimethoate used to controlHeliothrips haemorrhoidalis as indicated by the LC50 of 1.5 ml/l ai and a significantly different response at the LC90 level (P&lt;0.05) to the three other strains tested. None of the strains was different in level of response to methidathion (P&gt;0.05) and were unable to tolerate the recommended field rate of methidathion. Selection to dimethoate by routine field spraying has produced improved tolerance inP. persimilis. The dimethoate-tolerant strain was not different in developmental period and mean number of eggs produced per female when compared with the Sydney strain (P&gt;0.05).</subfield>
