   <subfield code="a">Summary: The nonlinear propagation of wave packets on an interface separating two magnetic fluids of finite thickness, stressed by a normal magnetic field in the absence of free currents on the interface, is considered in two dimensions. It is shown that the evolution of the amplitude is governed by two Schrödinger equations with cubic nonlinearity. One of these equations is used to determine the nonlinear cut-off wave number separating the regions of instability from those of stability. The other Schrödinger equation is used to analyse the stability of the system. The stability of the system is discussed both analytically and numerically and the stability diagrams are obtained. The stability analysis reveals the existence of more than one region of stability.</subfield>
