   <subfield code="a">The probability of damage of enameled chemical reactors is evaluated from the standpoint of a statistical model of brittle fracture of materials under different initial conditions. As the analysis showed, the relationship specified by national standards of the density of critical defects to the area of the working surface of chemical reactors as a rule does not correspond to the basic conclusions of the model of failure and particularly to the condition of preservation of the equally probable level of damage and requires appropriate correction. To reduce the probability of damage of coatings under service conditions, especially at high pressures and temperatures, the use of an increase in fracture toughness of porcelain enamels by reinforcing of them, for example, with filament single crystals of refractory oxides, is proposed.</subfield>
