   <subfield code="a">In the yeastSaccharomyces cerevisiae, several abundant, sequence-specific DNA binding proteins are involved in multiple aspects of chromosome function. In addition to functioning as transcriptional activators of a large number of yeast genes, they are also involved in transcriptional silencing, the initiation of DNA replication, centromere function and regulation of telomere length. This review will consider each of these proteins, focusing on what is known about the mechanisms of their multiple functions.</subfield>
