   <subfield code="a">Abstract : A differential display PCR approach was used to search for up and down regulated genes expressed during pollen development of Brassica napus. One of a number of isolated DNA fragments was shown to be pollen specific. Screening of a pollen cDNA library yielded the full length cDNA Bn 1 clone. The corresponding transcript was first detected around first pollen mitosis and increased in abundance until pollen maturity. The Bn1 RBP clone is 1743 bp long and codes for a polypeptide of 367 amino acids. The Bn1 RBP predicted protein has an estimated molecular weight of 40 kDa with pI of 8.7. Moreover, the protein contains a well-conserved RNA-binding domain, classifying it with a group of RNA-binding proteins with significant homology to La proteins. La proteins are conserved, predominantly nuclear phosphoproteins that bind to 3'-U termini of newly synthesized RNA polymerase III transcripts, possibly regulating mRNA stability and translation. This is the first plant clone that has a homology to La proteins.</subfield>
