   <subfield code="a">The results of Monte Carlo calculations of the neutron characteristics of idealized models of a cascade-type two-section blanket, including highly enriched uranium,237Np, and neutron moderators are presented. The dependence of the neutron characteristics of the blanket, primarily the neutron coupling coefficient k12 of the sections and the efficiency indicator of the blanket, on keff the properties of the fissioning materials, and the form and volume of the moderator are determined. The calculations are in reasonable agreement with the theory of two-section reactors. The importance of the potential for systems with237Np with respect to deep suppression of the coefficient k12 and increase in blanket efficiency is confirmed. 2 figures, 4 tables, 13 references.</subfield>
