   <subfield code="a">For macrocellular mobile radiocommunication systems, prediction methods of field strength are bidimen-sional. Here, the author offers a 3D diffraction model assuming a negligible reflection influence. This model is based on the Fresnel-Kirchhojf theory and evaluates the effects of longitudinal and transverse variations of terrain in the volume limited by the first Fresnel zone. In order to do this, a 3D terrain profile of links is constructed and a bidimensional obstacle model (building screen) is developed. An extrapolation of Deygout's method subsequently allows the 3D diffraction loss to be determined. The results of this diffraction model, integrated in a classic propagation model, are compared to measurements carried out at 427 MHz.</subfield>
