   <subfield code="a">This paper introduces an original approach in the theoretical study of photonic band gap structures. We limit our investigation to the case of a two dimensional approach able to model photonic structures constituted by an arrangement in rows of infinite square rods arrays. First a description of the finite difference time domain method (FDTD) applied to photonic band gap structures is given. Then, a parametric analysis gives the interesting properties of such structures. In order to avoid the discretisation of all the structure, an original equivalent model is introduced in the last part.</subfield>
