   <subfield code="a">The concentrations of silicic acid [Si(OH)4] and phosphate (PO4) in the Buzen-Kai (southwestern Seto Inland Sea) increased by a rate of 93:1 from April through July 2013. Using the core incubation method, the Si(OH)4:PO4 ratio of the release rate and the release amount from the sediment were estimated to be 92:1 and 86:1, which generally agreed with the increased ratio in seawater (93:1). These findings indicate that the Si(OH)4:PO4 ratio in seawater in the Buzen-Kai is considered to reflect the nutrient release ratio from the sea floor, probably much influenced by the temperature or redox state in summer.</subfield>
