The article discusses the utilisation of action research processes as a methodology to solve the problem of the integration of support functions in the quality assurance system of an institution of higher learning. It gives a critical reflection on the development process of a new system and proposes a conceptual model for the review of support services, which is underpinned by Habermas' concepts of negotiated collaborative assessment and communicative action.
