Using Hill's diversity representation, the prosperity index is a product of the total number of individuals and the effective number of species in a community. A series of prosperity indices can be derived using a parameter (Hill's number). As an analogy of component partitions of species diversity, regional, within, and between components are also defined. The prosperity index will be useful for practical aspects related to conservation and management.
