The subsequent reaction with sodium p-toluenesulfinate afforded the corresponding sulfones, and condensation of the latter with benzaldehyde in acetic acid in the presence of perchloric acid gave pyrylium salts with a β-ketosulfonyl fragment in the side chain. | |
