The metabolic index is estimated as the proportion of triglycerides and glucose values to quadratic HDL cholesterol value (in mmol/liter). The specifi c feature of this method for detection of insulin resistance in comparison with the known indirect methods is the use of routine biochemical values, evaluated in venous serum, for estimations. Estimation of this metabolic index is an economic and effective indirect method for evaluating the homeostasis system without additional evaluation of blood hormones.
