   <subfield code="a">A thermal scanning method is performed for the detection of phases appearing in the Co-W-Cl system. This new procedure is based on the detection of thermal effects corresponding to the successive reduction stages when a reactive metal halide (WCl6) is heated with a metal (Co) powder under a constant heating rate (2°C/min). The conditions adapted there from are used for the synthesis of individual compounds. No less than five phases were identified by X-ray powder diffraction as W(Cox)Cl6, CoW2Cl10, &quot;Co2W2Cl10”, (Co,W)Cl2, and CoW6Cl14.</subfield>
