   <subfield code="a">Two new lanthanide complexes [Ln2(tepa)2(μ 2-OH)2Cl2]Cl2 [Ln=Dy (1), Ho (2); tepa=tetraethylenepentamine] were prepared under solvothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV/Vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Both 1 and 2 consist of one binuclear [Ln2(tepa)2(μ 2-OH)2Cl2]2+ ion with cluster [Ln2O2] unit and two Cl− anions. The [Ln2(tepa)2(μ 2-OH)2Cl2]2+ ion is built up from two [Ln(tepa)Cl]2+ ions linked by two -OH bridging groups. Although some metal complexes of tepa ligand normally appear mononuclear, the binuclear complexes are relatively rare. Hence, both 1 and 2 are the rare examples of the binuclear complexes of tepa ligand. Density functional theory calculation of 1 has been performed.</subfield>
