During a number of rounds of the Quality in Microbiology Investigation Competency Assessment Scheme, it was noted that although all participants are provided with the same information, not all participants interpreted this information in the same manner, causing several to obtain poor/unsatisfactory performance scores. This raised the question: how critical is analyst interpretation to gaining satisfactory performance scores?
