The context of the study is an interdisciplinary postgraduate management course in the engineering faculty at a South African University. Twenty-two students were interviewed to investigate their experience of learning events in the context of this course. The analysis, using grounded theory principles, resulted in identification of changes that were coded as four categories of consequences. These include, change in thinking, change in approach to problem solving, change as personal development and change in worldview. These findings make a contribution to understanding the learning of systems thinking. Applications for this research for management educators and practicing managers include: (1) a framework to help educators design meaningful experiences for learners; and (2) a basis for understanding what constitutes systemic management practice and explaining differential development.
